This page is a step-by-step on how to set up the Teradek CUBE for LIVE broadcast with SermonAudio. For more on what other options are available and what is needed to set up your account for webcasting visit our webcasting help page
- Go to the Live Webcasts section to see if your church is listed as a webcaster.
- Visit your homepage on SermonAudio and look for the webcast badge under the HOME tab.
- You can also visit your Members Only page, the webcast server will appear under the STATS tab in the “Basic Account Settings” section if activated.
You can connect the CUBE to the PC in a couple of ways.
- You can connect your PC directly to the device using an Ethernet patch cord.
- You can connect the device to the network your PC is on either via wireless or wired connection to the network.
Once you have made a connection you can log on to the device via a web browser using the IP address.
To get the IP address assigned to the device, press the RED button to open the “Quick Actions” menu listing and scroll down to the “Network Info” option.
Press the RED Button again to display the IP addresses.
Choose one of the IP addresses and enter it into the address bar of the browser on the PC that is connected either to the network or the device itself.
Once you have obtained the proper IP address, enter it in the address bar of your browser window and you will be taken to the Teradek log in screen.
Unless you have changed the login, use admin for both user name and password.
You should now be connected to the device. Now, let’s go on to configure the stream settings.)
To point the encoder to the proper server needed to stream through our servers follow the steps below.
Open the stream settings, by clicking on the VIDEO SETUP tab at the top and then select the STREAM SETTINGS drop down.
On the Stream Settings page most of the settings are okay to leave at their defaults but make sure the following parameters are set.
- Server Primary URL: Enter your assigned server name from step one above here. (It should be something like this: rtmp://stream2.sa-media.com/MEMBER ID where MEMBER ID is your Member ID from SermonAudio. )
- User Agent: FMLE/3.0
- RTMP Authentication: Your user name and password are the same as the Member ID and password for SermonAudio.
Don’t forget to save your changes by clicking on the APPLY button at the bottom.)
To properly configure the encoder to stream through our servers follow the steps below.
On the Encoder Settings page most of the settings are okay to leave at their defaults but make sure the following parameters are set.
- Video Bitrate: 15000 (150Kbps) for standard definition broadcast, you can go as high as 1000000 (1Mbps if your internet connection is fast enough) Be sure to consider your connection bandwidth when making this setting. A setting too high can cause serious quality issues with your broadcast. It is a good idea to do an actual speedtest on the connection that you will be using before making this setting. A good place to do this is speedtest.net.
- Audio Bitrate: 48 kbps or up to 64kbps for HIFI broadcasts.
- Output Resolution: 1280x720p
- Frame rate: 30fps (this is right next to the Output Resolution below.)
- Compression Profile: Baseline
Wired connections generally do not need any setup. Just plug in the cable and go. If you do experience difficulty using this method you will need to have your Network or IT person take a look for you to ensure that the device is being recognized on the network. When you are connected you should see the text “Ready” in the upper right corner of the LCD screen.
For Wireless connections (we strongly recommend that you use a wired connection whenever possible) you will need to select the network and enter the password (if required) to connect. Once connected you will see the wireless icon displayed on the device in the upper Left corner of the LCD screen and “Ready” will be displayed in the upper right.
Next, select the WIRELESS tab on the page.
Then click on the button to SCAN FOR WIRELESS NETWORKS. (Be sure you have the WIFI antennas attached to the CUBE.)
Select your desired network from the list that pops up and then lastly, enter the password for the network (if required).
When you are finished don’t forget to APPLY your changes.
If you have connected successfully a green light will appear next to the WIRELESS indicator on the HOME screen on your PC and the Wireless indicator will also appear on the LCD screen of the device.
If your device is setup correctly, you should see two blue lights and see the word “Ready” displayed at the top right of the LCD Screen.
To begin broadcasting push the RED button and select START BROADCAST from the menu by pushing the button a second time.
You will be asked if you are sure, select yes (Y) by toggling the RED button to the side and then press the button again to select.
You will see the LIVE indicator in the upper right corner where the word “Ready” was before and the blue light next to the CLOUD Icon on the left will blink on and off indicating that you are sending data out over the internet.
It is a good idea to test the stream from a phone or other mobile device as well as a PC that is NOT on the same network/internet connection as your CUBE. It is important that you do not “tie-up” the bandwidth at your location by trying to watch the webcast over the same connection that the live webcast is currently broadcasting on.
That’s it. You will be LIVE and visible on SermonAudio.com! Please note that usage charges are accumulated at this point, even for test runs. Keep an eye on your current usage charges in the BILLING section of the Members Only Area.
To stop the broadcast simply press the RED button again. And select STOP BROADCAST from the menu in the same way you started the broadcast.
The site is designed to automatically detect when you are “ON-THE-AIR” and will make it clear to all who are on the site that a LIVE webcast is in progress. When you are live webcasting, the button will automatically change from the OFF AIR button
to the ON AIR button.
You can keep the live webcast on-the-air for as long or as short as you wish. SermonAudio will automatically keep track of the number of hours that are used in your live webcasts throughout the month and then add the total hourly usage charges for the month to your next billing cycle.
Please be aware that it may be up to 5 minutes before SermonAudio is able to detect that you are completely off-the-air. Do not be alarmed at this. We have taken these delays into account when calculating the usage charge for billing.)
You can setup or change most of the settings needed to make the Teradek CUBE ready for broadcast without a PC using the LCD screen on the device. One important exception is the RTMP Autentication, without this being properly set you will not be able to successfully broadcast via the SermonAudio servers. Be sure to set the Authentication correctly before going on location. It is much easier to setup the Teradek using the web interface in your browser, but if you do not have that available to you it is possible to change or setup most settings using the buttons on your device. Both the RED and BLACK buttons can be toggled up down and from side to side to make selections as well be pressed to select them.
To set up wireless networking press the BLACK button and then scroll down to NETWORK SETUP.
Select WIFI from the menu by depressing the BLACK button and then scroll down again to select CONFIGURE.
Next select SCAN FOR NETWORK and select the network that you wish to use.
To configure your device (enter a password) select YES
You can select each letter of the passcode by toggling the BLACK button up and down. To move forward toggle to the right. When finished press the BLACK button and the CUBE will attempt to connect to your wireless network.
Once the connection is made you can exit back to the main screen by pressing the RED button. You should see the WIRELESS signal icon in the upper left corner of the LCD screen.
Next to set up the Primary Stream press the BLACK button again and select STREAM SETUP and then the PRIMARY STREAM menu option.
Select SERVER URL and enter the server URL using the BLACK button to toggle up and down. Toggle to the right to go to the next letter. Press the BLACK button to enter when finished.
Once finished press the RED button to return to the main screen.
To set up the ENCODER press the BLACK button and select A/V Setup and then ENCODER SETTINGS
Select RESOLUTION from the list and then select your desired output resolution. (we recommend 720 for HIFI and 480W for Standard definition broadcasts) press the BLACK button to save your selection.
Next select VIDEO FRAMERATE from the list and select 30 pressing the BLACK button when you are finished.
Next select VIDEO BITRATE and select the bitrate that best fits your setup. You can go as high as 1.0 Mbps but be sure that your network speed can handle what you select. You may have to back off a bit if you experience video that is pausing or dropping. If you experience difficulty and need to drop down to a lower bitrate or resolution be sure to restart the encoder. You can do this by pressing the RED button on the main screen and selecting that option from the menu.
IMPORTANT!! It is imperative that your upload bandwidth speed is fast enough to ensure a smooth and successful webcast. Find out what your upload bandwidth speed is at your location. Your upload bandwidth speed should be at least 350kbps for standard live video webcasts and at least 1Mbps for HIFI video webcasts.
Next select the AUDIO BITRATE menu option and select 48000 from the list. (you can go as high as 64000) Again pressing the BLACK button when you have made the selection.
That’s it. You are setup to broadcast with SermonAudio. See step 7 above to begin your broadcast.)
Many of the problems you may encounter using this device can be remedied by simply powering off the device and restarting. Be sure to have the video on and the Ethernet patch cord plugged in before powering up.
If you have changed the settings for broadcast and the changes do not seem to be taking effect, you need to restart the encoder. You can do this by simply turning off the device and then turning it back on again or by restarting the encoder using the Quick Actions menu on the device.
To restart the encoder Press the RED button on the CUBE and select RESTART ENCODER from the listing by pressing the RED button again.
Select YES (Y) and press the RED button again.
If this does not work try restarting the device by turning it off for a minute or so and then turning it back on.
